SWFA SPECIAL EVENTS

Every year the SWFA holds a number of events designed to further our ability to meet the needs of our young athletes, recognize their efforts and further the aims of the MFL. Some of these events include our Silent Auction/Dance, Our Partnership with the Toronto Argonauts, and our Annual End of the Season Banquet. Some of these events are part of our fund raising efforts and others are an effort to provide recognition and encouragement to the young athletes who work so hard all season.

THE SILENT AUCTION

The Silent Auction is held annually close to the mid-point of the season. It combines two important functions, fund raising and spirit development. It is a night event for the adults involved with the SWFA be they parents, coaches, administrators sponsors or friends. We attempt through donations to develop a variety of choice products  which we put up for silent auction. The proceeds from this go to help meet the costs of running SWFA. While all of the coaches and administrators volunteer their time the costs to provide first rate equipment, professional development for our coaches, rent practice fields and pay referees etc is far higher than what is raised through registration fees. We have made a determined choice to keep football registration fees within reach of all and fully intend to keep things that way. As a result the need for sponsors and fund-raising efforts like the Silent Auction and the partnership with the Argos are exceptionally important.

Details of the Auction will be forthcoming. Click anywhere you see the term Silent Auction to find out where, when, how much and how you can donate items for the auction.

PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ARGOS

In 2001 the SWFA began a process to develop a relationship with the Toronto Argonauts. The relationship developed into an agreement to help support each other. For their part the Argos provided us with the opportunity for our players to see professional football, sometimes free of charge. They also had players attend our practices and help coach on a number of occasions, providing our players with their expertise and autographs. They have also provided us with excellent keynote speakers for our end of season banquet. On our part we sold tickets to one or more  Argo games with part of the proceeds going to the Argos and part to the SWFA.

Many thanks Argos, without your generous support many of our players could never have attended a professional sports event. You have gained a number of fans that otherwise would have had little concept of the quality of CFL football and of it's entertainment value.

New Helmets!

SWFA has  equipped all of our teams with the Riddell Revolution helmet due to its proven benefits in helping prevent concussions. This is a huge expense but is deemed necessary to keep our players as safe as possible. Once again fund raising will be of huge importance as it relates to our ability to provide a quality product to our players.

SWFA Casino Night 2007

Our second annual casino night went by without a hitch and was very successful bringing in close to $8,000  and helping make a large dent in our equipment expenses this year. Thanks go out to all those who helped with the organization, marketing, ticket sales and silent auction donations and particularly to the parents and friends that supported our efforts to provide a safe, fun football experience for all our players. The event ran well because of the organizational skills and hard work of Lisa Gillen and Bob Fasken. Their tireless efforts made the event a huge success.

Thanks everyone!!!

SWFA BANQUET

Every year we end our season with a banquet commemorating our players efforts and development throughout the season. The banquet includes a luncheon meal and award presentations. The cost to the players is covered by their registration fee so only parents and guests need pay. The cost to them is minimal. This is not a fund raiser. We try to have a guest speaker, often a player from the Argos at this banquet.
